Wokingham Winter Carnival - 28th November
10 sides
attended this year, and raised £500 for Wokingham Cancer Care
Trust. The sides were Alton, Berkshire Bedlam, Fleet, Hurst
Morris People (HuMP), Jackstraws, OBJ, Old Speckled Hen,
Rockhopper, Shinfield Shambles and Wicket Brood.
This years
carnival reverted to the long route for the procession with a
special plan for the Morris sides to join it for the final leg (sorry
about the possible pun). The highlight was when the marshalls
called "Berkshire Bedroom" forward to join it. I know
Berkshire Bedlam appreciated it.
The OBJ
side comprised Abi, Bob, Chris, Colin, Dave D, Dave K, Diane,
Doug, Gill, Jenny, Jill, Kelly, Linda, Mike G, Nikki, Pam, Susie,
Tiffany and Vera. Anne, Ian and Mike S joined us when their
duties with Shinfield Shambles permitted.

Fleet
Morris dancing in Peach Street. Wendy the fairy is just
visible. |
| Shanfield
Shimbles doing the same. The schedule was arranged to allow
the OBJ and Shinfield musicians to play for both sides.

Wokingham's
mayor demonstrates his dancing skills with Alton Morris. |
| OBJ
doing something slightly out-of-focus involving random
movement. Perhaps the Sloe Gin from the hip flask taking
effect? |
 |
 |
OBJ
doing something else. Note the appropriate sign on the
road and the way Jenny's face matches her kit (green,
black and white over a vivid shade of pink).
She said it was
something she ate, but it was just after the picture
below.
|
| The
sign on this machine says "No Fear". That's
what I thought when I saw it. What do you give a seasick
monster?
The same as you
give 6 petrified OBJ dancers after this ride: a wide
berth.
Yes, it did come
from a christmas cracker.

| In the Broad Street Tavern after the
dancing and the procession. Shirley (Jackstraws), Colin,
Dave (Wicket Brood), Tiff and Susie are hunting the
squirrel on the left. I've no idea what was happening in
the other picture.
